Jaipur: It seems even the 10-headed demon king Ravana could not escape the impact of rising prices.
With more demand for “low-cost” effigies, artists this year have made Ravana figurines, which are set on fire on Dusshera, with just one head.
“This year, people preferred buying low-cost effigies.
Earlier, we used to make effigies of ten-headed Ravana but we kept the Ravana single-headed this year due to increased cost,” said Jagdish Jogi, an effigy seller.
He said small-size effigies, 10-30 feet high, are in demand this year.
Meanwhile, burning of effigies and colourful fairs marked Dusshera celebrations in the Pink City today.
Effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran were burnt in public grounds in areas like Adarsh Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Mansarover, Pratap Nagar, Sanganer and Vidhyadhar Nagar.
Effigies with a height of 115 feet were burnt in Adarsh Nagar and Vidhyadhar Nagar grounds whereas the height of Ravana’s effigies in Mansarover and Pratap Nagar was 70 feet.
Effigies were also burnt in the outskirts where people celebrated the festival with enthusiasm.
Fireworks at the ceremonies enthralled onlookers.
Several fairs were also organised in Adarsh Nagar, Shastri Nagar and others localities where stalls with entertainment activities were set up for people.
