Railway bribery case: Court rejects bail plea of accused

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of one of the accused who had allegedly delivered the money to former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew in the Rs 10-crore railway bribery case. Special CBI Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected the bail plea of Vivek Kumar, saying the probe into the case is still going on and charge sheet has not been filed yet. [caption id=“attachment_848445” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Reuters](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/railways-reuters.jpg) Reuters[/caption] According to CBI, Vivek along with co-accused Dharmender Kumar had allegedly delivered Rs 90 lakh, part of the Rs 10 crore bribe amount, to Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla in Chandigarh to get a plum post for a Railway Board official. Singla is among those arrested in the case. Bansal had resigned last month from the Union Cabinet in the wake of the scandal. The court had earlier rejected the bail plea of co-accused Dharmender Kumar and had observed that he and Vivek had full knowledge of what they were delivering and that such a huge amount cannot be for a legal purpose. It had also said that Vivek and Dharmender were told about the persons to whom the huge amount was to be paid and they had full knowledge about what they were carrying. The CBI had opposed Vivek’s bail plea saying that he had allegedly carried the bribe amount to Chandigarh and was caught red handed while handing it over to Singla. Vivek is an accused in the bribery case in which a deal of Rs 10 crore was allegedly finalised for getting co-accused Mahesh Kumar, Member (staff) of Railway Board appointed to a more lucrative post in Railway Board as Member (Electrical). Bansal’s nephew Singla, close aide Ajay Garg, Mahesh Kumar, now suspended, businessman Sandeep Goyal and Managing Director of GG Tronics India Pvt Ltd, Narain Rao Manjunath, Samir Sandhir, Rahul Yadav and Sushil Daga are also accused in the case. CBI had earlier told the court that first tranche of Rs 90 lakh was given to Singla, who was apprehended while accepting the money. The agency had also said that it was decided between the accused that Rs five crore will be paid before the appointment and the rest of the money will be paid after the job was done. PTI
