After Rahul Gandhi shared a purported video in which Nitin Gadkari said his party made “tall promises” to the people to come to power, the Union minister hit back at the Congress chief, describing his allegations as ‘false’, ANI reported.

“I did not say anything on Modi ji, BJP or Rs 15 lakh,” Gadkari said at a press conference, according to a report in ANI. “The programme was in Marathi. I wonder, since when did Rahul ji start understanding Marathi?” The Union minister further said that someone who understands Marathi ought to translate the episode. “We fulfill promises we make,” Gadkari added. In the video shared by Rahul on Twitter, Gadkari is purportedly speaking in Marathi. Its English transcript quoted Gadkari as saying that they (BJP leaders) never thought they would come to power and it was suggested to them to make “tall promises”.

Rahul in the tweet said, “Rightly said. People also think that the government has made their dreams and hopes a victim of its greed.” Neither is the date of the purported interaction clear, nor is it clear which government the Maharashtra leader was referring to. The BJP is in power in Maharashtra and at the Centre.
