Punjab police searches for absconding Narayan Sai

Ambala: The Punjab Police has started search for self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s son Narayan Sai after getting a fresh lookout notice from Surat Police two days ago. Ambala and Panchkula Police are monitoring all possible locations for “absconding” Narain Sai, and are also keeping a close eye on the followers of Asaram. “The police got a tip off that Sai might be hiding somewhere in Ambala and Panchkula. We placed nakaas at Pinjor and Kalka and conducted a search of the vehicles going toward Himachal Pradesh, later it proved as a rumour,” said Commissioner of Police Rajbir Deswal. On November 24, he had moved Gujarat High Court seeking quashing of arrest warrant issued by a Surat court last month in connection with the sexual assault case lodged against him by two Surat-based sisters. An FIR was filed against the absconding Sai and Asaram on October 6 by Surat police at Jehangirpura police station, based on complaints of the two sisters who accused the father and son duo of sexual assault. The Surat court had issued the arrest warrant in Sai’s name in connection with the FIR on October 28 under Section 70 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). PTI
