Batala: Two persons were killed and four others seriously injured when two groups engaged in a firefight over a land dispute in the Batala area of Punjab on Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Balwinder Singh, resident of Kaler village, and Major Singh of Muradpur village.
The injured were identified as Kuldip Singh, Paramjit Singh, Gurmukh Singh and Harpinder Singh, all residents of Bhamboi village.
According to police, there was a dispute over land between two parties, led by Atma Singh and Balwinder Singh.
Balwinder Singh, Major Singh and their accomplice attacked the residence of Atma Singh with firearms during which the four persons, Kuldip, Paramjit, Gurmukh and Harpinder, sustained injuries.
But in the retaliatory firing, Balwinder Singh and Major Singh lost their lives.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Batala) Manminder Singh and SP(D) Vipan Chaudhary have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
The injured were admitted at the civil hospital here from where they have been shifted to Guru Nanak Hospital in Amritsar in a serious condition.
