An inspector and an assistant police inspector have been suspended, and the case has been handed to the Pune Police Crime Branch, in the first significant move in response to public outcry over purported police failings following the death of two techies in their 20s in the Pune Porsche accident.
Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari were punished for failing to notify their superiors—in this case, the deputy commissioner of police on night duty—about the crime as per protocol. The adolescent was escorted to the Yerwada police station following the accident, and the police officers were affiliated with that station.
Additionally, the case that was filed at the police station has been removed and given to the Crime Branch.
The youngster is the son of a well-known Pune realtor, and reports in the media suggest that in addition to looking into possible preferential treatment, his medical test had been postponed. According to sources, there was another oversight by the police, which was that they disregarded the established protocol and failed to notify the central police control room.
Senior police officials can also become engaged if a case arises that requires their attention, and the control room must be notified to guarantee that an accurate record of cases is kept.
The father of the youngster, who was being held by the police, was moved to court custody on Friday and will remain there until June 7. The young man was placed in a detention home until June 5.
