Property Dispute: Houses set ablaze in UP's Kaushambi after assailants killed three of family when they were asleep

In a tragic incident on Thursday night, a father-in-law, son-in-law, and daughter were fatally shot while they were asleep in a small hut in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi. Enraged by this shocking event, the grieving family members went on a rampage, damaging several nearby houses and setting them ablaze.

In response to the chaos, Chayal and Sirathu Chief Officers, along with law enforcement personnel from multiple police stations, rushed to the scene to restore order. The underlying cause of this gruesome Triple murder appears to be a property dispute, police said. Horilal, a 62-year-old resident of Chhabilawa, had been embroiled in a land dispute with some of his neighbours at Panda intersection. In an attempt to stake his claim, Horilal had built a hut on the disputed land. Additionally, his married daughter, Brijkali (22), and son-in-law, Shivsagar (26), resided in the same hut. Shivsagar had set up a Sahaj Jan Seva Kendra by renting a nearby shop. On Thursday night, Horilal, along with his son-in-law and daughter, were sleeping in the outer part of the hut when they were fatally shot by unknown assailants. The news only came to light on Friday, as their neighbours’ homes remained shuttered. Upon learning of the triple homicide, villagers swiftly gathered, and in their anger, they set fire to the homes of those believed to be responsible. SP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava stated that they are diligently working to restore order and investigate the incident.
