Congress MP Shashi Tharoor Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s opening speech in the Lok Sabha during the Special Parliament Session was “good.” PM Modi opened the discussion in Lok Sabha today where he spoke about the 75 years of the Indian Parliament and bid an emotional farewell to the old Parliament House as the session is all set to move to the new building tomorrow. “PM Modi’s speech was good but he only spoke about selective issues in the House. There were several other issues that he did not talk about,” Tharoor said.

“Before Independence, this Parliament was the place of imperial legislative council. After the Independence, it got the identity of Sansad Bhawan. While it is true that constructing this building was the decision of the foreign rulers, but we can never forget and can say it proudly that the sweat, hard work and money used in building it was of my countrymen,” said PM Modi in Lok Sabha. Remembering his initial days at the parliament, he said, “When I first entered this building (Parliament) as an MP, I bowed down and honoured the temple of democracy. It was an emotional moment for me. I could have never imagined that a child belonging to a poor family, living on the railway platform would ever be able to enter the Parliament. I never imagined that I would get so much love from people.”
Agenda of Special Parl Session Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said a total of eight bills have been listed for consideration and passage during the session. Floor leaders were on Sunday informed at an all-party meet that a bill on the welfare of senior citizens and three related to SC/ST order have been added to the agenda. The bills listed earlier include the one on the appointment of chief election commissioner and election commissioners. The other listed business for Lok Sabha includes The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023.
