Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Bhutan next week.
The Indian Prime Minister is likely to be in Bhutan on March 21 and 22, on invitation of Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
The Bhutan’s King invitation to PM Modi was extended on Tuesday (March 14) by Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay who is on a visit to India, his first overseas visit after assuming office in February 2024.
PM Modi and PM Tobgay met in New Delhi on Tuesday. Both the leaders reviewed the progress in various areas of bilateral partnership, including infrastructure development, connectivity, energy, hydropower cooperation, people to people exchanges and development cooperation.
They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the special and unique India-Bhutan friendship.
PM Modi accepted the invitation of the Bhutan’s King, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
The Bhutan PM also conveyed his deep appreciation for India’s role as a reliable, trusted and valued partner in Bhutan’s developmental priorities.
PM Modi took to X to share pictures of him meeting his Bhutanese counterpart and wrote, “Glad to meet my friend and PM of Bhutan @tsheringtobgay on his first overseas visit in this term. Had productive discussions encompassing various aspects of our unique and special partnership. I convey heartfelt thanks to His Majesty the King of Bhutan and @PMBhutan for inviting me to visit Bhutan next week.”
