Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a series of development initiatives in Delhi on Friday, which includes 1,675 flats for residents of JJ clusters and two urban redevelopment projects in the country’s National Capital.
As per a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi will visit the newly-built flats for residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters, part of a slum rehabilitation initiative at Swabhiman Apartments in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar.
He will also distribute keys to eligible beneficiaries. The PMO further stated that the 1,675 newly constructed flats are part of the government’s “housing for all” initiative. The project aims to offer residents of JJ clusters in Delhi a healthier and more comfortable living environment, with essential amenities and facilities.
For every Rs 25 lakh spent on construction of a flat by the Central government, the eligible beneficiaries pay less than seven per cent of the total amount, comprising Rs 1.42 lakh as a nominal contribution and Rs 30,000 for five years of maintenance, the statement read further.
The BJP-led government at the Centre is pushing for development as the national capital gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, expected to take place February this year.
The BJP has been engaged in a fierce political rivalry with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has been in power in the union territory since 2013.
