New Delhi: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly advocated for the concept of ‘one nation, one election’ and called on political parties to unite in achieving this goal, arguing that frequent elections are impeding national progress.
In his address on the 78th Independence Day, Modi highlighted that extensive consultations have been conducted nationwide, with all political parties providing their input and a committee delivering a comprehensive report.
“Frequent elections are obstructing the nation’s advancement. It’s become commonplace to associate any scheme or initiative with upcoming elections. With elections occurring every three to six months, every task gets tied to electoral cycles,” Modi declared from the Red Fort.
“The nation must rally for ‘one nation, one election’,” he emphasised.
The prime minister urged political parties to act in the spirit of the Red Fort and the national tricolour, ensuring the nation’s progress. He also called for the effective use of national resources for the benefit of the common people, urging all to contribute to realising the vision of ‘one nation, one election.’
The ‘one nation, one election’ initiative is a major promise outlined by the BJP in its Lok Sabha election manifesto.
