Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial after the Lok Sabha Election campaign concluded, where he started a two-day meditation that will last until June 1. At the Dhyan Mandapam, where Swami Vivekananda used to meditate, PM Modi is meditating.
The Prime Minister took a helicopter from nearby Thiruvananthapuram to the shrine of Bhagavathi Amman.After engaging in worship at the temple, he took the ferry to the rock memorial.
Clad in a dhoti and a white shawl, PM Modi circumambulated the ‘garbhagriha’ after offering prayers at the shrine. A framed picture of the temple’s presiding deity and a shawl were among the temple ‘prasad’ that the priests gave him after performing a special ‘arthi’.
Following the “arthi,” PM Modi traveled to the rock memorial by a ferry service run by the shipping company, which is under the control of the state government. It was at the “dhyan mandapam” that he began his meditation. The prime minister paused to see the breathtaking views of the surrounding sea from the mandapam’s steps before starting his meditation.
Modi showered flowers on the pictures of Swami Vivekananda, mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa as a sign of respect. The mandapam is adorned with a life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda on a tall pedestal. After that, Modi entered the mandapam to start his sadhana, or spiritual practice.

The memorial is situated atop a rock that is said to be the spot where Vivekananda became enlightened.
According to legend, it was also from this rock that the goddess Kanniyakumari prayed to Lord Shiva, earning her a significant position in Indian religion. The image of the goddess’s feet is thought to be in a specifically preserved area of the rock.
The memorial displays a tasteful fusion of several architectural styles. Explore the Sripada Mandapam and Vivekananda Mandapam, two of the memorial’s structures. On the site is a bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda, which is life-sized.
