Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a swipe at Congress-led Opposition for creating “hooliganism” in the parliament and creating disorder.

Addressing the media ahead of the Winter Session of parliament, PM Modi said, “Some people, who have been repeatedly rejected by the public, are constantly trying to disrespect the parliament and democracy through hooliganism.”

Intensifying his attack, PM Modi went on to say, “Unfortunately, some people, for their political gains, who have been rejected by the people, want control with ruckus by select few individuals. People count their behaviour, and answer them at the right time. New individuals come with new thoughts, ideas, few people muzzle it, they don’t even get time to speak in the parliament. It is the responsibility to prepare the new generation. They don’t let the discussion happen in the parliament, don’t respect the spirit of democracy, don’t understand the aspirations of people, as a result, they don’t live up to the expectations of people. The people have no other option but to reject them.”

“Those who have been continuously rejected by the people 80-90 times do not allow discussions to take place in the parliament,” he further said.

Parliament Winter Session 2024

The parliament’s Winter Session 2024 begins today (November 25) and will conclude on December 20. The session is likely to witness a fierce start with the Opposition all charged up to attack the Modi-led Central government on a range of issues including the US indictment of businessman Gautam Adani to the unrest in Manipur.

On Sunday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju asserted that the Union government is “ready to discuss any topic” while calling for a peaceful session.

“The government is ready to discuss any topic. Our only request is that the House should run well and there should be no ruckus. Every member wants to participate in the discussion but the House should run well. To run the winter session well, everyone’s cooperation is needed and everyone’s participation is necessary,” Rijiju said after the all-party meeting in Delhi.
