Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity is touching new heights and his improved approval score is likely to aid the BJP in emerging victorious for the third consecutive time in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
As per an Ipsos IndiaBus report called ‘PM Approval Rating Survey in February 2024,’ PM Modi’s approval rating witnessed a 10 per cent jump in February to 75 per cent from 65 per cent in 2023.
People aged between 18-30 years gave Modi an approval rating of 75 per cent while the highest ratings came from the 45+ group (79 per cent).
As per the Survey, the country’s North Zone is nodding its head for PM Modi with a maximum of 92 per cent approval followed by the East Zone (84 per cent) and West Zone (80 per cent). Meanwhile, the South Zone recorded a low of 35 per cent.
Ranking Modi government’s best and worst sectors, the survey covers adults of both genders from all four zones in the country, with over 2,200 respondents from different backgrounds answering its questionnaire and survey topics.
Here’s a look at the ‘Big Bang’ tail-winds for PM’s skyrocketing approval rating
1- A big boost to ’Make in India’
Since it was voted to power in 2014, the Modi government’s push for the Make in India campaign and skill development has gained a lot of traction. Competing with foreign goods, and giving a boost to the sale of local goods have invoked sentiments of ‘If the world can do it, so can India’.
India has emerged as a lucrative destination for manufacturing, business and startup owners across the world. The country jumped to 79 positions from 142nd (2014) to 63rd (2019) as per ‘World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Ranking 2020’.
2- Independent stand on international issues
From hosting a successful G20 Presidency to becoming an independent voice against Western pressures, India is making its stand clear in a world grappled with turmoil and wars.
Not only in geopolitics, India is shining bright in its science and space initiatives too. The launch of Chandrayaan-3 put the country among the elite space institutions like NASA, Russia’s ROSCOSMOS etc.
3- Sweeping growth in sanitation and cleanliness
With the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan campaign taking a front seat, India’s global image of sanitation and cleanliness has improved over the years.
Respondents of the survey have given a score of 67 per cent to the Modi government in the sanitation and cleanliness department. Also, it is one of the best-performing sectors under Modi.
4- Modi’s temple run
By inaugurating the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and a Hindu temple in UAE, PM Modi won people’s hearts.
“Some of the big bang initiatives like opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya (92% Approval Rating in North Zone validates it), temple in the UAE, taking a stand on global issues independent of the influence of any western power, initiatives in space, hosting the G20 Summit successfully in India, giving a fillip to Make in India, with major global players choosing to manufacture in India, have all contributed to the spike in Approval Ratings of the PM," Parijat Chakraborty of Ipsos India said.
