Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has described the recent strains in India-US ties as a temporary “blip,” expressing confidence that the two countries would overcome current challenges and move ahead on a trade agreement.
Speaking to News18 Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi in an exclusive interview, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India and the United States share one of the most consequential relationships in the world today, emphasising that the two nations remain “friends and allies” despite differences.
The statement came in the wake of Washington’s tariffs on Indian imports, which have raised concerns about friction in bilateral trade.

The minister underlined that New Delhi continues to hope for progress on a trade deal with Washington, adding that both sides recognise the long-term importance of a strong economic partnership.
“The US-India relationship is one of the most consultative partnerships, built on mutual trust and shared values. Although we have faced certain challenges, I believe these situations will pass, and the relationship will only grow stronger.”

“While some comments may cause temporary concerns, the India-US friendship is much stronger than a few isolated remarks. Any measure that harms our farmers or fishermen is unacceptable. We will never compromise on the interests of our farmers, fishermen, or the nation,” he added.
Goyal also lauded PM Modi’s vision for self-reliance, saying the country has survived the Covid-19 pandemic and has been among the fastest growing economies in the last four years. He said PM Modi had taken a broken economy and made it among the top economies of the world.
Goyal lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying he has no understanding of economics. “He sees ghosts where there are none. He cannot appreciate that the people of India have seen significant improvement in their lives. He cannot reconcile with the fact that people have voted him out three times,” he told News18.
