A security guard in a store in DLF Mall in Saket on Saturday evening noticed a rather curious customer. The man was reportedly walking behind women wearing short dresses and miniskirts, and then standing near them, sticking his right leg out and keeping it close to them, a security guard told The Hindu .
The security guard alerted a manager who turned up with three security personnel. The man reportedly started running but the guards raised an alarm, pursued him and caught him.
The security personnel then took him to the mall security room. On checking him they found a spy camera between the lace of his right shoe in recording mode and they found that he had recorded at least 10 clips, the store manager told The Indian Express .
The arrested man was then identified as 34-year-old Ashish Sharma. Sharma is reportedly a corporate lawyer and is the son of a former president of a consumer forum in Haryana.
A case under relevant sections of IPC was registered immediately, said DCP (South) Prem Nath.
Sharma was booked under section 354C and 354D, for capturing images of women in private acts and for stalking. However, since the sections are bailable, he was later released on bail . He also reportedly wrote a letter of apology to the mall staff.
Police also recovered around 12 obscene clips from his possession, but it is yet to be found out whether he stored the clips for personal use or uploaded over internet sites.
During interrogation, he disclosed that he conceived the idea from popular sites and later purchased the spy cam from an online portal.
Police officials said that he fitted the cam in his right shoe and used to tactically place his foot so as to capture upskirt videos. Sharma also told the police that he has been to the mall on 19 September as well. His laptop and mobile phone have now been confiscated by the police.
