Pay fees or get beaten up: Teacher bangs 7-year-old's head against wall, boy dies

In a shocking incident, a 7-year-old boy was beaten up so severely by a teacher that he died in the hospital later. The incident occurred in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. According to NDTV, the victim Araj was first thrashed by the teacher and then his head banged against the wall. The Times of India has another version of the attack which states that the boy was first thrashed and then flung out on the highway outside the school. “The principal of DSR Public School in Rath (Deorania), Avinash Saraswat, in a fit of rage thrashed seven-year-old Mohammad Aaraj as his parents had not been able to pay Rs 4,500 that was due to the school,” reports TOI. AFP[/caption] After the boy became unconscious and started bleeding from the nose, he was rushed to the hospital. The doctors declared him dead on arrival. The NDTV report states that after the doctors pronounced the child dead, the school authorities left the hospital and called up the boy’s family. Without clearly telling them what had happened, they told the family that they should come and fetch their child who has been admitted to the hospital because he fell sick. The TOI, however, reports that the child, who was probably dead by then, was left lying on the highway for a long time. “Family and local residents were enraged that the principal and school manager could leave the child’s body on the highway. People blocked the Bareilly-Nainital highway in protest, beat up school staff and damaged property in the school premises.” A case of culpable homicide has been filed against the principal and the school manager. However no arrests have been made so far.
