Congressman Shashi Tharoor expressed alarm over the security lapse in Parliament on Wednesday, stating that a sitting member of the ruling party appeared to be sponsoring the invaders. Shashi Tharoor went on to urge that Union Home Minister Amit Shah provide a thorough explanation. Two attackers broke into the Lok Sabha chamber during Zero Hour on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror assault by entering through the guest gallery. This was a serious security breach. “The fact that these people (intruders) were apparently sponsored by a sitting MP of the ruling party…These people smuggled in smoke pistols, which shows there is a serious security lapse. Not only did they fired the pistols but also shouted some slogans inaudible to some of us. The new building does not seem to be configured very well when it comes to security in comparison with the arrangements in the old building,” Tharoor said. He further said the meeting has been called by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and the Congress will raise concerns regarding the incident. “This is the anniversary of the assault on Parliament in 2001. Now we are seeing another breach of security on that anniversary. The Speaker has convened the floor leaders for a meeting at 4 pm, but I do believe that the matter is serious enough that the Home Minister may want to explain to the nation about the security lapses and security arrangements,” he added. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha stated that a comprehensive inquiry into the security breach in the House is currently in progress. Two individuals with canisters in their hands leaped into the House from the visitor’s gallery during a security breach in the Lok Sabha, according to Congress MP Karti Chidambaram. They yelled slogans and let off yellow gas from canisters before MPs subdued them. Images showed an unidentified individual leaping from the Lok Sabha visitor’s gallery, followed by a small disturbance. The House convened till 2:00 PM. The event occurred when BJP MP Khagen Murmu brought up his problem while members were discussing vital public matters. Simultaneously, two individuals, including a woman, sprayed colored gas and shouted slogans outside the Parliament premises. (With agency inputs)
