Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the people of the nation as his family members on Sunday, ahead of his first Lok Sabha election rally in Uttar Pradesh. He also said that his administration had given the people’s ambitions new life.
On Sunday, the prime minister will address a rally in Meerut, where the BJP has announced actor Arun Govil, well known for the TV series “Ramayan,” as its candidate. Elections in Uttar Pradesh, a politically significant state with 80 Lok Sabha seats, will take place in seven stages starting on April 19 and for which about 15.34 crore people are eligible to vote.
On April 26, Meerut will hold its second phase of elections.
The BJP secured 62 seats and its partner Apna Dal (S) two seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Sonia Gandhi’s seat in Rae Bareli was won by the Congress. With 10 seats, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which contested the elections in coalition with the Samajwadi Party, emerged as the alliance’s largest gainer.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party won five seats while the Rashtriya Lok Dal couldn’t open its account in the polls.
