Daljeet Singh, 42, a transporter from Aithal village in Laksar tehsil of Haridwar, died in the clash allegedly after he received severe injuries to the head. Another local, 60-year-old Abdul Waheed, was also critically injured and has been admitted to a government hospital. Five more people are also believed to have sustained injuries in the clash, according to the report. Baba Ramdev’s younger brother, Ram Bharat, who is involved in the administration of the food park, has been held by the police.

According to reports, the local transporters were not happy with the food park administration as they were not given a slice of the supply and transport business in the park. The transporters had assembled in protest at the park on Wednesday, when Ram Bharat, spoke to the protesters which soon turned into a heated argument leading to the violent clash. “Prima facie, it appears that Ram Bharat had instigated the herbal food park staff to resort to violence,” Sweety Agarwal, senior superintendent of police, Haridwar, was quoted by the Times of India as saying. This is not the first time when Baba Ramdev has been pulled into controversy. There have been many allegations of corruption and tax evasion against the Yoga guru. A huge maze of companies, that include Patanjali Yoga Pith, Patanjali Herbal Food Park, broadcast channel and Patanjali consumer products, have been mired several times into tax fraud controversies. There have also been allegations of unaccounted for money which comes as donations to the Divya Yog Mandir Trust. The baba is also facing land grabbing charges , as the mandir trust has been reported to encroach upon government land.
