One Assam Rifles jawan was killed and three others were injured on early Friday morning in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast that took place in Ukhrul district of Manipur, ANI reported.

The IED, which was planted at 27 Assam Rifles check post at Ramva, exploded at 7.20 am. Police and Assam Rifles personnel have cordoned off the area, which falls under Sangshak police station limits in Ukhrul district. A combing operation was on. A similar attack was carried out against Assam Rifles on 15 June in which one jawan was killed and four others were injured. A banned terror outfit called Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) had claimed the responsibility of the attack. The outfit claimed to have carried out improvised explosive device (IED) blast at Kashung village in Ukhrul district, a statement issued by the outfit had claimed. There has been increase in incidents of IED blasts and ambush on security forces in Manipur since last few months, says an India Today report. To maintain the law and order situation in the state and to prevent attacks on security forces, the state government had constituted a seven members committee, adds the report. With inputs from PTI
