 "NSA Ajit Doval holds call with Iran’s Ahmadian; discusses Chabahar, INSTC, regional stability")
On Sunday, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Ahmadian on the regional situation and the Chabahar port project.
According to an Iranian readout, Doval discussed Iran’s “constructive role” in the area and India’s willingness in strengthening collaboration on the construction of Chabahar port and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
It is said that discussions also touched on the ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan.
“During the call, Doval emphasised Iran’s constructive role in the region and expressed India’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation – particularly in the development of Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor,” the readout said.
He also thanked Iran for its continued assistance and support, it noted.
“Ahmadian affirmed that Iran and India, as two ancient civilizations, share deep-rooted ties and vast potential for political and economic collaboration,” the readout said.
It stated that Ahmadian, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, emphasised the need of implementing critical projects quickly and emphasised that bilateral cooperation serves the larger objectives of regional peace and security.
The Chabahar port, located in Sistan-Balochistan province on Iran’s energy-rich southern coast, is being constructed by India and Iran to improve connectivity and economic relations.
The INSTC is a 7,200-kilometer multi-mode freight transportation project connecting India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia, and Europe.
