Reuters[/caption] The figure stood at 504 in 2012 while in 2011 it was 388 and in 2010, 188 revellers were challaned. The number of total challans issued this year also came down from the last year. The traffic police issued 724 challans to all kind of traffic offenders last night, a decline from last year’s 844 challans. “Out of these 724 challans, vehicles have been impounded in 91 cases while cases have been registered against five offenders for haphazard driving and they were arrested,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla said. No fatal accident took place in the city after midnight last night. Also, not a single incident of stunt biking was reported this year. The New Year celebrations saw Delhi Traffic Police keeping a strict vigil on the city streets with those indulging in drunken or rash driving prosecuted. PTI
