Senior Congress leader and Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane’s son Nitesh got bail on Wednesday from a court in Goa after he was arrested late last night for allegedly vandalising a tool booth in Perlem along the Goa-Maharashtra border and allegedly assaulting a staffer at the toll booth who stopped him after Nitesh allegedly refused to pay the toll fee. Nitesh’s vehicle and a cavalcade of cars were stopped when they refused to pay the toll fee. Toll booth staffers told journalists that Nitesh threatened them sayiong he was Narayan Rane’s son. Rane’s other son, Nilesh, is a Member of Parliament from Sindhudurg and hence is not required to pay the toll charge. The toll booth staffer said he demanded the toll of Rs 250. Following the arrest, his supporters gathered outside the police station and shouted slogans. In Mumbai, a private bus operator’s buses were damaged in stone-throwing by alleged Nitesh Rane supporters in Borivali. Lamp posts outside the Goa Bhawan were also vandalised. Rane has said it is a political conspiracy involving the BJP-led Goa state government.
He wlll stay in Goa till Thursday and will hold a press conference on Friday to clarify.
