In a case that eerily resembled the December 2012 Nirbhaya rape case, a 13-year old girl was allegedly raped in a bus by the driver and the assistant in the Baksa district of Assam.
According to TV reports, the incident took place on Sunday night (23 August), but the case was only reported to the police on Tuesday night by the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA).
According to an Indian Express report , the girl worked as a domestic help used to take the bus to and from work.The bus driver and the assistant took advantage of the bus being empty and drove it to an isolated spot where the duo proceeded to rape the minor.
A medical examination of the victim took place at the Nalbari civil hospital, and the results are said to be expected in a few days, the Baksa superintendent of police Mojibur Rahman said to The Telegraph _._
The details of the incident are still unknown but The Telegraph reports that according to a source, the girl boarded the bus at 7.30 am. After around two-and-a-half hours when the bus neared the end of the route, the driver and his assistant assured her that she would be dropped at her village in Sonitpur district. However, both men took advantage of the teenager.
But when the girl escaped and the authorities rushed to the site the accused had abandoned the bus and fled the spot, reports Assam Tribune .
