New York Times' #SelfieWithDaughter fiasco: Website trolls Digvijaya, by mistake

As #SelfieWithDaughter dominated Twitter trends and made headlines around the world, New York Times committed a gaffe of epic proportions. [caption id=“attachment_2201640” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]Digvijaya Singh. PTI Digvijaya Singh. PTI[/caption] All of India turned up for a father-daughter selfie on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demand, but as usual, Twitter has its own way of trolling everything. The photo that surfaced on Twitter and went viral was of AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh and his girlfriend Amrita Rai, a journalist, together under the hashtag #SelfieWithDaughter. The Twitter prank was taken quite seriously by the NY Times. According to a report in The New Indian Express, NY Times published a story, titled #SelfieWithDaughter campaign launched by Indian Prime Minister Modi a smash hit, with the prank photo of Digvijay Singh and Amrita Rai, among other tweets with #SelfieWithDaughter hashtag.

However NY Times later remover the photo from their site and published an apology with the post. “Correction: an earlier tweet included in this article featured a satirical comment about an Indian politician seen in a photograph with his companion, not his daughter. We regret the error.” Well, to err is human. To troll, divine.
