Bhutanese PM hails PM Modi's leadership

When asked about India’s growth in recent years, Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay lauded his Indian counterpart’s leadership over the last 10 years.

“Well, to look forward, you look backwards and you see the last ten years, during the last ten years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has grown spectacularly. Infrastructure, the development in infrastructure has been unprecedented- airports, roads, rails, seaways, all of that growth has been spectacular. In the area of FDI, there’s been a lot of FDI, a lot of manufacturing, renewable energy, particularly solar energy, agriculture, and poverty alleviation,” the Bhutanese premier told ANI.

“So to see what’s going to happen in Modi 3.0, you just have to look back to see what has happened. One of the biggest accomplishments has also been the foreign policy, whether it is the immediate region and neighbourhood first policy or even the successful outcome of the G20 under India’s chairmanship. FP Explains: Why Modi 3.0 cannot have more than 81 ministers

Narendra Modi is expected to take the oath as the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term at 7:15 pm at Rashtrapati Bhawan on June 9. This milestone makes Modi only the second person after former PM Jawaharlal Nehru to achieve such a feat.

Yet, all eyes are on which MP-elects from the NDA will make the final cut into Modi’s Cabinet and Council of Ministers. These ministers are also scheduled to take their oath on Sunday. With Modi needing to rely on coalition allies to run his government, the charge of ministries is likely to be distributed in a manner that accommodates them well.

Meanwhile, Bihar CM and JDU president Nitish Kumar meets party workers at his residence

While PM-elect Modi conducts meeting for his party leaders, Bihar CM and JDU president Nitish Kumar conduct meeting with his party workers at his residence.

Narendra Modi has taken oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third straight term.

As the head of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, Modi will lead a Cabinet that will be a mix of old and new faces.

While Modi is set to keep the ‘Big 4’ portfolios of Home, Defence, Finance, External Affairs and retain Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S Jaishankar, several new faces are set to be part of the 3rd Modi Ministry.

As it’s an NDA government and not just of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), there is an increased representation of non-BJP partners. Even as the portfolios are yet to be allocated, it has been learnt that there was intense jostling for portfolios like the railways among the NDA partners.

Previously, leaders of the NDA on Friday unanimously elected Modi as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party. Later in the day, the NDA staked claim to form the government, and, after President Droupadi Murmu satisfied herself that the alliance had enough numbers, she appointed Modi as the Prime Minister-designate of India.

Following the formation of the new government, the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is likely to begin around June 15. In the new session, the newly elected candidates will take oath as members of the House and the new Speaker will be elected.

The next day, President Murmu will address a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, thus formally inaugurating the session.

The final call on the dates of the session will be taken by the new Union Cabinet. During the session, Modi will also introduce members of his Council of Ministers to both the Houses. The session is likely to conclude on June 22.
