Japanese PM Fumio Kishida on Sunday said that G20 countries agreeing to New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration is truly a “meaningful achievement”. Addressing an event on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Kishida said, “Under the leadership of India as this year’s chair, we were able to agree on the G20 Leaders’ declaration which is a truly meaningful achievement. Japan has been engaged in the negotiations with the intent to pass on the outcome of the G7 to the G20 and we were able to hand over to the G20 points that were confirmed at the Hiroshima Summit.”

“I look forward to working with other leaders to follow up on the outcomes delivered by the G7 and G20…,” added the Japanese Prime Minister. He lauded PM Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s leadership as chairs of the ASEAN-related summits in Jakarta and the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

“Over the course of the past five days, I attended ASEAN-related summits in Jakarta and the G20 New Delhi Summit. First and foremost, I extend my deep respect and appreciation to President Joko of Indonesia and Prime Minister Modi of India for exercising outstanding leadership as chairs of the summits and to the members of both governments…,” said the Japanese President. Top world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Brazil President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva, Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and several others, gathered in New Delhi for the two-day summit starting 9 September. On the first day of the summit on Saturday, Modi announced the G20 leaders’ declaration was adopted with consensus, throwing a major surprise as both the Russia-China combine and the West had indicated that they would not budge from their respective positions on the Ukraine conflict.
