Thiruvananthapuram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, the four states that are celebrating their formation day on Wednesday, 1 November. In a tweet published in Malayalam, Modi wished peace, progress, and prosperity to the people of Kerala. He tweeted, “Kerala Piravi greetings to all Malayalees. Kerala, which completed 61 years on Wednesday, celebrates 1 November as Kerala Piravi, state formation day. On this day in 1956, the state of Kerala came into being by integrating the erstwhile Malabar, under the British rule during the colonial era, with the princely states of Travancore and Cochin. Kerala governor P Sathasivam greeted people of the state, saying, “On the occasion of the Kerala Piravi which marks the 61st year of the birth of our beloved state, I convey my heartfelt love and best wishes to the people of the state and to Keralites all over the world.” Sathasivam also urged people to join hands to help the southern state script a new model of development and preserve the amity and harmony during the occasion. “Let us join hands to help Kerala script a new model of development and to preserve the aroma of amity and harmony that has always enriched our society,” the governor added. Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh also celebrate formation day Modi greeted people in Karnataka in Kannada, while extending his best wishes to people in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh in Hindi on Twitter. “My good wishes to the people of Karnataka on the Karnataka Rajyotsava. We are proud of the rich culture of Karnataka. I pray for its progress,” the prime minister tweeted.

Karnataka was formed on the same day as Kerala, 1 November 1956, by expanding the erstwhile Mysore state to re-unify some key Kannada-speaking and geographically connected regions of south India. The change of the state’s official name to Karnataka, however, happened nearly two decades later, with the passing of the Mysore State (Alteration of Name) Act, 1973. Karnataka celebrates its formation day as ‘Karnataka Rajyotsav’, also marked as a public holiday in the state. In a tweet in Hindi, Modi prayed for development in Chhattisgarh, while congratulating Madhya Pradesh as well.

देश के विकास में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान देने वाले मध्य प्रदेश के निवासियों को राज्य के स्थापना दिवस की बहुत-बहुत शुभकामनाएं।
