Narendra Modi, Amit Shah talk about corruption but fail to respond to Shahzada model: Congress

New Delhi: The Congress  on Friday said it is unfortunate for the country’s politics that those facing corruption charges were talking of fighting the menace and demanded answers from the prime minister on the huge rise in the turnover of a company owned by BJP chief Amit Shah’s son. Congress spokesperson RPN Singh said top BJP leaders, including prime minister Narendra Modi and Shah, were campaigning in poll-bound Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka and talking about corruption, but had failed to come up with a reply to the “Shahzada model”. Image courtesy: PIB[/caption] “Prime minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah are talking about corruption in Himachal Pradesh. The prime minister should also talk about the ‘Shahzada’, whose income has gone up by 16,000 times in a short period,” he told reporters in Delhi , in an apparent reference to Shah’s son Jay Shah. A recent article published by a news portal claimed that the turnover of a company owned by Jay Shah witnessed a massive rise in its fortunes after the BJP came to power at the Centre in 2014. The BJP has, however, denied any involvement of the party in Jay Shah’s business dealings. “The way these people are talking about corruption, there cannot be anything more unfortunate than this in politics,” Singh said. Stating that every day, one could see the BJP leaders talking about corruption, he wondered, “Why has the prime minister not talked about the corruption of the Shahzada?” Terming it as strange that someone, whose family members were facing corruption charges, was talking about corruption, Singh said, “The irony of the BJP’s anti-corruption plank,  Amit Shahji of the Shahzada fame and Yeddyurappaji are taking out an anti-corruption march in Karnataka.” Hitting out at Shah and former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa for taking out the march, Singh alleged that there were corruption charges against them or their family members. “Our (Karnataka) chief minister (Siddaramaiah) has already sought to know if this yatra is for repentance and whether it will teach the people how to do corruption,” he said.
