Mystery shrouds Aditi Ghatak's death as mother alleges foul play

The case of Aditi Ghatak’s death today became even more mysterious  as  the 19-year-old’s mother Sangeeta  cried foul  after she lodged a complaint with the Tiljala police station alleging that her daughter was murdered. Adity is the 19-year-old granddaughter of legendary Bengali filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak. A CNN-IBN report said that Sangeeta alleged that her daughter was poisoned or that her drink was spiked, and she was under water for  two hours after drowning, despite  being a good swimmer. [caption id=“attachment_543426” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Ibnlive[/caption] Aditi’s family members had lodged a police complaint alleging foul play, the police said on Sunday. “An injured and unconscious Aditi was discovered beside the road in Sonarpur (city outskirt) Friday. She was admitted to a private nursing home where she died Sunday,” an officer of the Tiljala police station under which the complaint was made said. The girl, a first year student of a city college, was last seen by her friends on Friday leaving in a car with her boyfriend and two other girls from a south Kolkata locality. Late on Friday night, a half-wet Aditi was spotted by her friends lying on the edge of a canal unconscious and admitted to a private hospital. An attempt to murder case has been registered with the police against her boyfriend by the victim’s family members. A post-mortem was being conducted on the body and the Sonarpur police station, to which the case was referred by the Tiljala police station, was investigating the death. Tiljala police station sources, however, claimed that the car had met an accident and two girls were injured. Of them Aditi’s injury was serious to which she succumbed. “If she had met with an accident then why was she found alone at the site? How come nothing happened to the others? There is something wrong,” alleged Sangeeta who Sunday filed the FIR. State urban development minister Firhad Hakim has asked police to expedite the post-mortem of Aditi’s body and make a detailed investigation on the basis of the complaint made by her family members.
