Myanmar Army plane that came to fetch soldiers who crossed into India for refuge crashes in Mizoram

A Myanmar Army plane with 14 people, including the pilot, on board crashed at Mizoram’s Lengpui airport on Tuesday.

At least six people were injured in the Burmese Army plane crash.

As per initial reports, the Myanmar military aircraft, which came to pick up Myanmar soldiers who fled the Lawngtlai district due to clashes between the Myanmar Army and rebels, skidded off the runway at Lengpui airport in Myanmar.

“The injured were admitted to Lengpui Hospital,” the Mizoram DGP said.

Mizoram’s Lengpui airport has a tabletop runway and as the name suggests it is located and built on top of a plateau or hilly surface, with one or both ends of the runway overlooking a drop.

Myanmar soldiers enter India’s Mizoram

On Monday, India sent home at least 184 Myanmar army soldiers. An official statement from Assam Rifles confirmed that 276 Myanmar soldiers entered Mizoram on 17 January to take shelter after a gunfight with the rebels in which Khankha mountain Myanmar military base in Southern Chin state which was reportedly captured by the rebels.

The Myanmar soldiers entered Bandukbanga village at the India-Myanmar-Bangladesh trijunction in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district and approached the Assam Rifles for assistance.

The Myanmar soldiers were taken to the Assam Rifles camp at Parva, after which, they were relocated to Lunglei for supervision.
