While several high-profile schools in Mumbai are known to take extreme measures to enforce discipline, a school recently found itself facing the ire of parents of a student. This was after Activity High School, reportedly forced the student to get a haircut on school premises against his wishes, according to a report by Mumbai Mirror. The parents have now reportedly filed a complaint with the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. According to the Mumbai Mirror report, the parents said that the principal had stuck chewing gum in his hair two years earlier and that they have a record of her admission to having done so. The Mid Day report quotes the principal of the school as saying she was not aware of the incident, and that the school calls a professional barber ‘and not some roadside barber’. In July, another school in south Mumbai had, in an unusual punishment, had forced some students to stand outside the school building for seven hours, after they remained absent from school the previous day, according to an Indian Express report.
