Heavy rains lashed the city and its suburbs on Tuesday afternoon and the rains continued through the night till Wednesday morning. However, there was no report of waterlogging or disruption of transport services. On 29 August, the metropolis received more than 300 mm rainfall, crippling the transport services and throwing normal life out of gear.

08.02 am: Navi Mumbai, too, witnessed heavy rainfall on 19 September. Between 8:30 am to 11.30 pm, Belapur received 226.00 mm of rainfall while Nerul received 206.30 mm rainfall. The rainfall in Vashi was at 175.70 mm, while Airoli received 178.40 mm rainfall. The average rainfall was 196.60 mm.
07.55 am: A total of 56 flights have been cancelled at the Mumbai airport. The main runway remains closed. The SpiceJet flight has not been displaced yet. Operations is going slow on runway number 14 due to high tailwind. First flight departure from the said runway was at 00:30 am and first arrival at 01:30 am.

07.47 am: According to BMC control room, there’s water-logging only at Andheri-Chakala area right now, no such reports from other places. Many incidents of trees falling have been reported throughout the city, but there is no proper count available yet. 07:31 am: The Ministry of Earth Sciences on 18 September had predicted heavy rainfall stretched across five days from Monday. Showers in Konkan and Goa and coastal Karnataka are expected to continue till 23 September and decrease thereafter.

07:12 am: Central and south Mumbai report no waterlogging as rains grip western suburbs.
07.07 am: Harbour line services have resumed after being closed down due to waterlogging during the early hours of Wednesday. While Central Railways trains continue to run with a delay of 20 minutes, trains in the Western line are reportedly running on time.
7.03 am: As heavy showers continue to lash city, Mumbai Police have warned of a high tide expected at 12.03 pm & 06.04 pm on Wednesday.
6.48 am: Tuesday-Wednesday heavy showers mar Diwali celebrations. After announcing holiday for schools and colleges in Mumbai on Wednesday, education minister Vinod Tawde also said that the holiday because of the incessant rains “will be compensated by reducing one holiday from Diwali vacations.”

On Sunday, the weather department had forecast heavy rains in Mumbai and the coastal Konkan region for the next three days. However, the metropolis did not receive any significant amount of rainfall on Monday. On Tuesday morning, Mumbai woke up to an overcast condition and in the afternoon, heavy downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning started. Several parts of the city, including South Mumbai, Borivali, Kandivili, Andheri and Bhandup, received heavy rainfall. However, no untoward incident has been reported so far from any part of the city, said an official attached with the Disaster Management Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He said the civic administration and other agencies have geared up to tackle any eventuality arising out of the rains. Both road and train traffic, including the suburban rail network, remain unaffected by the downpour, the official added. As per information received from the Colaba observatory, the north Konkan region of Maharashtra, including Mumbai and its neighbouring areas, is expected to receive more rains. “Some places are expected to receive heavy showers. Therefore, we have alerted citizens to take precaution,” he said. With inputs from PTI
