Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Four dead, four injured in road accident, traffic towards Mumbai affected

Four people died and four were injured in a road accident involving two container trailers, a tempo and a car on the Mumbai-Pune Express on Tuesday morning, police said. [caption id=“attachment_2306788” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Representational image: News18[/caption] “The accident took place somewhere between 8 am to 9 am near the Khalapur toll naka, next to the food plaza,” a Highway Police (Maharashtra) official told Firstpost. According to Highway Police, the accident took place on a lane entering Mumbai and that traffic towards Mumbai was affected. “We are making all efforts to clear the road and resume traffic as soon as possible,” the police had said. A police officer at Khopoli station told Hindustan Times that a trailer heading towards Mumbai was hit by another trailer from the rear. According to the newspaper, “The impact was such that both the trailers veered into other lanes. A tempo, which was also moving in the same direction, took an extreme left turn in its attempt to avoid the trailer, but lost control and toppled on the road. A car, which also tried to avoid the accident, hit one of the trailers and toppled on the highway.” According to a Maharashtra Times report, the injured have been admitted in a nearby hospital. The identity of some of the victims have been ascertained, and their families informed, and attempts are being made to identify others. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway had witnessed an on Monday as well where the driver of a tempo died on the spot.
