Mumbai on high-alert after second ISIS terror attack message found in airport

Another message warning of a terror attack has been found scribbled in the washroom of Mumbai Airport Terminal 1A, reports CNN-IBN. The message warns of an attack by the Islamic State on Republic Day (26 January) where US President Obama will be the chief guest at the event in Delhi. According to a Times of India report, the message was scribbled in the men’s washroom and one of the staff toilets as well. The report notes, “the message at the staff toilet was written a few days back but went unnoticed, the police said, as the date of the attack in the message was January 10.” The message read, “ATTECK BY ISIS 10/01/15 (sic),” according to CNN-IBN. It was spotted by a house cleaning staff in the arrival area on Thursday evening, notes the report. The Central Industrial Security Force is probing the matter. CISF manages airport security. Since no CCTV footage was available, the CISF will be analysing the footage outside the washroom, notes the IBN-Live report. According to the TOI report, “police are also questioning airport staff and those who noticed the messages.” TOI also points out that “in the last three days, nine unattended bags were found outside the terminal buildings.” However, no suspicious objects were found in them. The report comes after there were security alerts that an Air-India flight to Kabul could be hijacked. Delhi airport was set on high alert following intelligence agency inputs about the hijack threat. An earlier report in the Times of India noted that “stringent checks of even the staff members have been instructed”. Meanwhile in Kolkata one person was arrested on 5 January by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police for allegedly making a threat call to the city office of Air India. Prasanta Biswas (35), a resident of Bongaon, was arrested for making the call to Air India’s city office. A special team which comprises officers of the STF and the detective department were tracking the number from which the call was made to the national carrier’s city office, a senior police officer said.
