Mumbai: Heavy rains lash city; thunderstorms may continue on Friday, says IMD

Mumbai, on Thursday evening, witnessed thunderstorms with heavy rains lashing several parts of the city, Mid Day reported. The latest thunderstorm was the second in three days. The report quoted India Meterological Department (IMD), Mumbai saying that the city may witness thunderstorms in some places on Friday as well. Reuters[/caption] According to India.com, following heavy rains on Thursday, evening traffic jams were also reported  in some areas. On Wednesday,  the IMD had predicted that a thundershower was likely to occur in the city towards Wednesday and Thursday evening or night. SkyMet Weather on Tuesday had reported that temperatures would drop in Mumbai and a few good spells of rain would occur during the two to three days from Tuesday. On Tuesday, the metro city was struck by thundershowers and lightning , with the Colaba observatory recording 56.8 mm rain while the Santacruz observatory recording 103.2 mm rain. According to Mid Day, the BMC’s disaster management team had reported 28 incidents of trees falling across the city on Tuesday, along with four incidents of partial building collapses. A trough's formation  and its extension from north central Maharashtra to the southeast Arabian Sea across Konkan and Goa is mainly behind the change in climate. Mumbai had been experiencing hot weather for the last few days. On Monday, Santacruz had recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature recorded at Colaba was 33.4 degree Celsius.
