The government has also ordered an inquiry into what caused the fire. Kumar said casualties are unlikely to rise as all checks have been done. “We don’t know the cause of the fire as yet. Railway minister has ordered an enquiry,” he told reporters. 9.00 am: Rs five lakh compensation announced to deceased Compensation of Rs five lakh has been announced to the deceased in the Mumbai - Dehradun train tragedy. Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge has also announced an inquiry into the cause of the fire. The death toll from the incident has now climbed to nine. Three to four people are said to be in a critical condition. 8.30 am: Relief and rescue teams reach Dahanu Rescue teams and fire brigades from Dahanu have been rushed to the spot of the accident, reported NDTV. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. The Dehradun Express runs between Bandra Terminus and Dehradun stations. The fire is believed to have started at around 2.30am, spreading quickly to three coaches. 7.00 am: Five dead in Mumbai Dehradun Express fire Five passengers including a woman, were burned alive when a fire engulfed the Mumbai-Dehradun Express train near Dahanu in Thane district, Maharashtra, early Wednesday, officials said. The fire is believed to have erupted in one coach and quickly spread to two other coaches, while the passengers were asleep at around 2.30 am, a Western Railway official spokesperson said. The fire was brought under control soon afterwards and relief and rescue operations are underway.
