Mumbai BMW hit-and-run accused Mihir Shah sent to 14-day judicial custody

Mihir Shah, the key accused in Mumbai hit-and-run case, has been sent to 14 days judicial custody till July 30.

Shah (24), son of Shiv Sena politician Rajesh Shah, was arrested after he allegedly rammed his BMW into a two-wheeler, killing 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and injuring her husband Pradip Nakhwa. The accident occurred around 5:30 am on July 7 in Worli’s arterial Anni Besant Road.

Shah evaded the police for three days until he was traced to be sheltering in an apartment in Virar, around 65 km from Mumbai. The police got to know about his location when one of his friends turned on his phone for 15 minutes.

To avoid being arrested, Shah shaved his beard and cut his hair, the police earlier told the court.    

After being produced before a court on July 10, Shah was sent to seven-day police custody.

During the probe, it was found that Shah allegedly sped off towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link even as the woman remained on the bonnet of his BMW and then got entagaled in its wheels for about 1.5 kilometre.

Police also alleged that Shah was under the influence of alcohol when his car hit a two-wheeler. On July 6, he was allegedly driving his BMW, after partying with friends at a Juhu bar.

In the court on July 19, police said, “He (Mihir) has not given any information about whom did he meet, where all did he go after the crime. He threw away the number plate. There’s no information on why he cut his hair.”

Hours after arresting Shah, cops had recreated the accident scene to get more information about the chain of events.

Rajshri Bidawat, the family driver, was in the car at the time of the accident. Cops alleged that the driver had swapped driver’s seat with Mihir on the instruction of Rajesh Shah.
