In the new government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajasthan got three ministerial positions in the ranks of Cabinet, Minister of State (Independent Charge) and Minister of State.

Rajasthan

1. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat

Rank: Cabinet

Portfolio:

Born on 3 October 1967, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is from Rajasthan who held the position of Union Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Jal Shakti. He represents Jodhpur in the Lok Sabha as a member of the BJP.

Shekhawat’s political journey began in 1992 when he was elected president of the Student Union at JNVU University, outpacing all previous Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad candidates. He subsequently rose to become the National General Secretary of the BJP Kisan Morcha, the farmers’ wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and held a position on the Rajasthan State Executive of the BJP.

In the 16th Lok Sabha elections of 2014, Shekhawat secured his seat with an unprecedented victory margin of 410,051 votes from Jodhpur. A notable highlight of his tenure was the expansion of Jodhpur Airport, addressing a long-standing demand of the region spanning 18 years.
Shekhawat is also renowned for his social media presence, being the most followed Indian politician on Quora, with over 83,749 followers. His answers on Quora have garnered more than 8 million views. Additionally, he has chaired the Fellowship Committee, served on the All India Council of Sports (AICS), and been a member of the Standing Committee on Finance.

2. Arjun Ram Meghwal

Portfolio:

Born on 20 December 1953, Arjun Ram Meghwal is served as the Minister of Law and Justice (Independent Charge) since 2023, alongside holding the portfolios of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs since 2017 and Minister of State for Culture since 2021 in the Second Modi ministry.

Meghwal won by a margin of 5,711 votes and defeated Congress candidate Govindram Meghwa from Rajasthan’s Bikaner constituency.
Affiliated with the BJP, Meghwal has a distinguished career having held various key positions. He previously served as the Chief Whip, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises from 2019 to 2021, Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs from 2016 to 2017, and Minister of State for Water Resources from 2016 to 2017. Meghwal has been representing the Bikaner constituency in Rajasthan in the Lok Sabha since 2009.

Chaudhary Bhagirath Singh Choyal has been serving as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha since 2019. He previously represented Kishangarh in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. During his tenure, he chaired the Committee on Environment for the years 2015-16 and 2016-17. Choyal is affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
