 "Misri briefs parliamentary delegation on Op Sindoor, Pak terror campaign")
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Tuesday briefed the MPs and delegation members set to leave for different countries to highlight India’s fight against terrorism in the wake of Operation Sindoor.
Over the weekend, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the names of seven members of Parliament to lead India’s delegations in its international outreach for zero-tolerance against terrorism.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is one of the seven lawmakers taking India’s “strong message” against terrorism to the world after Operation Sindoor.
The other six leaders, from both the Opposition and the ruling NDA, who will lead the delegations are Shrikant Shinde from Shiv Sena, Ravi Shankar Prasad from BJP, Sanjay Kumar Jha from JDU, Baijayant Panda from BJP, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi from DMK and Supriya Sule from NCP.
Shashi Tharoor will lead engagement with the United States, while Supriya Sule has been tasked with outreach to South Africa and Egypt. Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda will be sent to Western Europe, and Shrikant Shinde will handle the delegation in the UAE and Africa. Sanjay Jha has been assigned to Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi will engage with Russia and Spain, and Ravi Shankar Prasad will oversee outreach to West Asia.
TMC sparks row
Meanwhile, West Bengal’s ruling party, Trinamool Congress, has expressed its dissatisfaction over the centre’s decision to pick its MP and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan as a member of one of the seven diplomatic delegations.
Earlier during the day, Rijiju called Trinamool supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to pacify" her and seek her suggestions for a representative to the multi-party delegations from her party.
