Data from the Indian Tsunami Warning Centre showed that minor tsunami waves up to 40 cm high were observed near the Cambell Bay Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands following the massive earthquake off the Indonesian coast. According to the report the tsunami alert has been continued as there could be waves of less than two metres height might be generated between 5 p.m. and 6.30 pm. Officials said the likelihood of a tsunami was very low. There have been at least five aftershocks experienced in Indonesia following the massive earthquake of 8.6 magnitude on the Richter scale. The

two aftershocks of magnitude 5.3, one of 5.1 and one of 5.4 on the Richter scale before the massive aftershock of 8.2 on the Richter scale struck.
