Microsoft outage: India's CERT-In issues advisory, minister says NIC network is safe

CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) has issued an advisory on the Microsoft outage caused by Crowdstrike update, and rated its severity as ‘critical’

Amid the Microsoft global outage that has brought most of the digital world to a standstill, India’s Minister of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) Ashwini Vaishnaw said the government is in touch with Microsoft.

Vaishnaw said the reason for the outage had been identified and also assured that the network of the National Informatics Commission (NIC) has not been affected.

MEITY is in touch with Microsoft and its associates regarding the global outage.

The reason for this outage has been identified and updates have been released to resolve the issue.

CERT is issuing a technical advisory.

NIC network is not affected.

The Microsoft outage has grounded several flights, many still are mid-air, several planes have got delayed. Banking operations have a hit, stock markets too are facing the brunt and so are super markets and several other sectors across the globe.

A host of media outlets have also been affected by the Microsoft outage with screens turning blue.

In India, carriers - IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, SpiceJet, Akasa Air have been facing technical issues that are affecting ticket booking, check-in and giving out flight updates.

Meanwhile, CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) has issued an advisory on the Microsoft outage caused by Crowdstrike update, and rated its severity as “critical”.

“It has been reported that Windows hosts related to Crowdstrike agent ‘Falcon Sensor’ are facing outages and getting crashed due to recent update received in the product. The concerned windows hosts are experiencing a ‘Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)’ related to Falcon Sensor,” CERT-In advisory said.
