Tragedy rocked India on Thursday after an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft bound for London from Ahmedabad crashed in the Meghani Nagar area . The aircraft was carrying 242 passengers, with confirmation on the casualties still pending. In the videos that are circulating online, thick smoke was seen rising from within the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport premises.
Soon after the crash, Air India issued a statement, stating that it was gathering information about the crash. “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on http://airindia.com and on our X handle,” the airline company said in the statement.
The rescue team are currently conducting the evacuation process at the crash site. According to the information obtained by News18. The plane hit the BJ Medical College UG hostel mess in Meghani Nagar. Reports suggest that MBBS students have lost their lives in the incident as well.
