The Meerut gangrape and alleged conversion case took another twist on Thursday after the victim revealed that she had been gangraped once earlier, in June, long before she reported the second incident of assault. According to a report in

, the survivor told doctors at the Mahila Chikitsalay, where she is being treated, that she had been gangraped on 29 June. The assault had taken place in a field a few kilometres away from her home in Sarawa village, Meerut. [caption id=“attachment_1655585” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

In that document, she states, “I was tricked into sitting in Hafiz’s (Sanaullah) car on June 29 when I was returning home. He along with some other men took me to a field with a tubewell and gangraped me. I returned home and for the next eight days there was slight bleeding, I had difficulty in walking. On July 1, I missed my periods. Then I started bleeding from July 8 till July 23. I went to Hafiz who then took me to Muzaffarnagar for the operation.” Meanwhile, the prime accused in the case, a Muslim cleric Hafiz Sanaullah, is absconding. Sanaullah allegedly kidnapped the victim again in July, forced her to convert to Islam and also got her raped. A report in

states that several questions have been raised over the work done by the Meerut police. Efforts have not been made to identify the doctor who operated on her and allegedly removed her fallopian tubes, the report said. The case has sparked outrage nationally. The Modi government has sought a detailed report from Uttar Pradesh government and the victim’s family wanted a CBI probe.
