Pakistan military moving troops to forward areas with offensive intent: MEA press briefing

Pakistan military is moving troops forward with an offensive intent, says India, as the hostilities between the two nuclear-powered countries reached a boiling point. In the press briefing held on Saturday, the Indian government warned that while India does not seek escalation, it will retaliate to any form of provocation.

Addressing a joint special briefing of the Ministry of Defence and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Col Sofiya Qureshi noted that all hostile actions by the Pakistani military have been responded to appropriately so far. They maintained that the Indian armed forces are in a “high state of operational readiness".

“Pakistan military has been observed to be moving its troops into forward areas, indicating an offensive intent to further escalate the situation. Indian armed forces remain in a high state of operational readiness. All hostile actions have been effectively countered and responded to appropriately. Indian armed forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is reciprocated by the Pakistani military," the military representatives said at the briefing.

It is pertinent to note that the government has the armed forces holding these media briefings frequently, since the start of Operation Sindoor on May 7. During the Saturday press, the representatives also slammed Pakistan’s tendency to spread misinformation.

India hits 6 Pakistani air bases in retaliation

Wing Commander Singh detailed India’s swift military response to Pakistan’s offensive. She stated that the Indian forces carried out strikes at identified military targets in Pakistan.

“In a swift and calibrated response, Indian armed forces carried out a precision strike only at identified military targets. These included technical infrastructure, command and control centre, radar sites and weapon storage areas. Pakistan military targets at Murid, Chaklala (Rawalpindi), Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur and Sunia were engaged using air-launched precision weapons from our fighter aircraft. Radar sites at Pasrur and Sialkot aviation base were also targeted using precision munitions," she said.

“Pakistan has also attempted to execute a continued malicious misinformation campaign, with claims of destruction of the Indian S-400 system, destruction of airfields at Surat and Sirsa… India unequivocally rejects these false claims being spread by Pakistan," she added.
