Maoists kill three of a family in Jharkhand

The Shahdeos live at Murmu village in the district were known for their fight against the Maoists and had survived four Naxal attacks in the past.

Lohardaga, Jharkhand: Three members of a family were abducted and shot dead by Maoists whom the family had kept at bay for 25 long years, police said today.

Balksihore Shahdeo, his son Pramod and brother Jai Kishore were kidnapped from Sahebapat village of the district and shot dead last night near Marayan jungles, superintendent of police Manoj Ratan told reporters in Lohardaga.

The prominent Shahdeo family had fought the Maoists for the past 25 years, he said.

“We have kept them at bay for 25 years,” former Jharkhand Pollution Control Board chairman Lalbal Mukund Nath Shahdeo, another family member said.

The Shahdeos live at Murmu village in the district were known for their fight against the Maoists and had survived four naxal attacks in the past.

Union Minister of state for Rural Development and Lohardaga MP Sudarshan Bhagat, Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda, Lohardaga MLA Kamal Kishore Bhagat and Jharkhand police chief DK Pandey visited the place.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das condemned the ghastly killings.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and talked to the police officials following the incident.
