The Manipur government has suspended internet and mobile data services, including VSAT and VPN, in five valley districts for five days starting 11:45 pm on Saturday, according to an official statement.

The affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching.

The order, issued by Home Secretary N Ashok Kumar, said the step was taken due to the tense law and order situation, especially in Imphal East and West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur. Authorities fear that social media could be misused to spread hate messages and videos, potentially worsening the situation.

The order was issued urgently and warns that anyone violating it will face legal action.

This move comes after protests broke out in Imphal East and West on Saturday night, following the arrest of a leader from the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol.
