Man accused of murder lynched by mob in Meerut

Meerut: A 35-year-old gangster was lynched by a mob after he allegedly killed a former associate at Indrishpur village in Meerut. AP[/caption] Hasmat (35) was killed by villagers in Meerut on Tuesday evening after he shot dead a member of his gang, identified at Shabir (36), as he suspected him of being a police informer, a police spokesperson said. Shabir, Hasmat and three others were booked in a murder case six months ago. While four of them were arrested, Hasmat was on the run, they said. Hasmat suspected that Shabir had turned an informer and revealed to the police his whereabouts, police said. He reached the village and shot Shabir who died on the spot. On hearing the gun shots, the villagers gathered and beat him with canes, they said. By the time the police reached there, Hasmat had already died. PTI
