After cops arrested Jagriti Singh, wife of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Dhananjay Singh, on charges of illegal confinement and physical torture on the maid, she has reportedly admitted to charges of brutal torture on her maid. This regular torture reportedly led to her death which was reported earlier this morning.
According to news reports, it appears that the maid might have been beaten with a heavy object that could be a club or a stick repeatedly. Not just that, she was also beaten with a hot iron rod. Jagriti Singh has also admitted that she dragged the maid by her hair and thrashed her repeatedly, reports said.
Though the extent of injuries cannot be confirmed at the moment, CNN-IBN has learnt that the domestic help had injuries on her head, chest, stomach and arms but the exact cause of death will be ascertained by post mortem.
Rampal Singh, another domestic help who worked with the Singhs, also alleged that he was beaten by Jagriti Singh. However, the BSP MLA maintained that the maid fell down from the stairs and hurt herself.
An electrician told CNN-IBN that he was also beaten up in the MP’s residence. “I only went there when called. I was once beaten with slippers and told that I was inciting the other domestic helpers in the house.”
Sources have told India Today that another servant of Singhs had died under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Balsafa village in Jaunpur in 2009. The police were also probing whether that bears any connection to the latest death.
